2008 Stanford Grand Prix-Day 3 Finals Wrap Up

Women’s 100 Back
World Record Holder Natalie Coughlin claimed the championship title while matching her previous world record mark with a time of 59.44. Lauren Rogers swam to the wall next with a time of 1:02.74 for the silver. King Aquatics’ Leona Jennings claimed the bronze in 1:03.14.

Men’s 100 Back
Hongzhe Sun was the top finisher in 55.13 followed by David Russell who hit the wall in 55.87. Eugene Godsoe posted a solid 56.32 for the bronze.

Women’s 200 Free
Team Bruin’s Kim Vandenberg notched the top time and championship title in 2:00.37.Kate Dwelley and Karlee Bishop pushed to the wall next with times of 2:00.79 and 2:01.37 respectively for the silver and bronze.

Men’s 200 Free
Trojan Swim Club’s Klete Keller captured himself the championship title in 1:46.56. Andy Grant secured himself second with 1:49.86 . Nashville Aquatics’ Shaun Phillips posted the third fastest time with 1:52.10.

Women’s 100 Fly
Dana Vollmer of U C Berkeley clocked the fastest time again with 58.59 with Elaine Breeden posting a solid time of 59.64 for second. Stanford’s Dana Kirk took home the bronze with her time of 1:00.14. Sister to the third place finisher, Tara Kirk finished first in the ‘B’ final in a time of 1:01.77.

Men’s 100 Fly
Brazil’s Fernando Silva took home the gold with 54.81. Patrick Simpkins clocked a time of 55.20 for the silver while Jan Tichy and John Dwelley both notched times of 55.89 to shared the bronze.

Women’s 400 IM
Caitlin Leverenz of El Dorado Aquatics turned in a swim of 4:40.50 for the win. Ariana Kukors posted 4:44.35 for second while Julia Smit placed third with her swim of 4:47.48.

Men’s 400 IM

Vanni Mangoni bested the field with his swim of 4:26.03 to claim the championship title. Josh Charnin-Aker grabbed second in 4:27.73. San Jose Aquatics’ Scott Weltz rounded out the top three in his time of 4:33.90

2008 Stanford Grand Prix-Day 3 Prelims Wrap Up

I apologize to everyone who has come to this site in hopes of up to date results. I just got back from a trip overseas and underestimated the power that is jetlag. My sincerest apologizes. I’ve done a wrap up of Day 3 Prelims and Finals. I hope to have photos up for you as soon as possible. Thanks for understanding.

Women’s 100 Back
King Aquatics’ Leona Jennings claimed the top time of the session with 1:03.40 followed by Lauren Rogers who hit the wall next in 1:03.54. Julia Smit notched the 3rd top time with 1:03.95 while world record holder, Natalie Coughlin placed 4th with her time of 1:04.39.

Men’s 100 Back
World University Games member Hongzhe Sun secured the top time with 56.10 while Russell David touched the wall in 56.31 to put give him the second seed of the morning. Eugene Godsoe, Stanford Grand Prix’s 200 Back champion, closed out the top three with his time of 56.39.

Women’s 200 Free
Team Bruin’s Kim Vandenberg notched the top time with 2:01.55. Ariana Kukors clocked 2:01.59 for second and Kate Dwelley secured herself the third position with a time of 2:02.16.

Men’s 200 Free
Trojan Swim Club’s Klete Keller secured himself the top time of the morning with 1:47.93. Stanford’s Andy Grant clocked a time of 1:50.47 for second and Andrew Trepp rounded out the top three with 1:51.96.

Women’s 100 Fly
Dana Vollmer of UCBerkeley clocked the fastest time of the morning with 59.43 with Brazil’s Gabriela Silva just behind her with 59.93. Kim Vandenberg of Team Bruin closed the top three in 1:00.07. Swimstar Tara Kirk secured herself into the ‘B’ final and the 16th fastest morning swim with 1:02.45.

Men’s 100 Fly
Brazilian Fernando Silva claimed the top time of the morning with 54.85 while Patrick Simpkins and Peter Davis closed out the top three with times of 54.86 and 55.15 respectively.

Women’s 400 IM
Another Brazilian, Joanna Maranhao claimed the top time of the morning session with her time of 4:46.14. Ariana Kukors followed with 4:47.40 securing herself into another swim for the night. Julia Smit pushed herself to the wall next with a time of 4:48.93 closing out the top three.

Men’s 400 IM
Vanni Mangoni scored the top time with 4:31.75 while James Martin touched the wall next in 4:36.68. Josh Charnin-Aker claimed the third fastest swim of the morning session with 4:38.62.

2008 Ohio State Grand Prix – 400 Free Relays

The NBAC quartet of Felicia Lee, Liz Pelton, Natalie Beale, and Katie Hoff won the women’s 400 Free final with a combined 3:47.60. Host team Ohio State was second in 3:57.03, just ahead of Nashville Aquatics (3:59.28).

Hosts Ohio State completed their sweep of the men’s relays with a 3:23.71 team finish. The Bolles School were the runner-ups in 3:26.93, followed by Mecklenburg’s 3:30.01 effort.

2008 Ohio State Grand Prix – Men’s 200 Fly Finals

Brazil’s Kaio Almeida’s 1:57.40 swim earned him the top spot on the medals podium for the men’s 200 Fly. North Baltimore’s Dan Madwed picked up 2nd in 1:58.17 with Mexico’ Israel Duran Mata finishing 3rd after a 2:00.86 performance.

2008 Ohio State Grand Prix – Women’s 200 Fly Finals

Kaitlin Sandeno was the top finisher in the women’s 200 Fly final, securing the win in 2:10.75. Katie Hoff finished 2nd in 2:11.03, followed by teammate Courtney Kalisz’s 2:11.27. The 3rd North Baltimore swimmer in the championship final field, Felicia Lee, was 8th after a 2:18.67 swim.

2008 Ohio State Grand Prix – Men’s 100 Free Finals

Auburn’s Cesar Cielo held off a late charge by Michael Phelps to win the 100 Free title in 48.34. Phelps’ time of 48.41 was not only a personal best, but also the 3rd fastest 100 Free time by an American ever. Fred Bousquet clocked a 49.38 to claim 3rd. After his 1500 Free final, Peter Vanderkaay returned to the pool for this final and finished 5th in 50.33.

Katie Hoff captured the 100 Free title with a 55.24 swim with Northwestern’s Andrea Hupman touching second in 55.96. Closing out the top 3 was Bolles’ Ariann Vanderpool-Wallace with a time of 56.19. Megan Romano (57.79) scored a second place finish in the ‘B’ final.

2008 Ohio State Grand Prix – Men’s 200 Back Finals

Aaron Peirsol easily won the men’s 200 Back final, hitting the wall in 1:56.41. Florida’s Roland Rudolf garnered 2nd place with a 1:59.00 effort. The two were joined by another Longhorn, Dave Cromwell, on the medals stand after a 2:01.25 finish. Club Wolverine’s Erik Vendt turned in a 2:03.03 swim for 6th.

2008 Ohio State Grand Prix – Women’s 200 Back Finals

Teresa Crippen posted a solid 2:12.88 to win the 200 Back. North Baltimore’s Liz Pelton was the runner-up with a 2:12.95 swim while Crippen’s Germantown teammate, Katie Riefenstahl, took 3rd in 2:15.32. Felicia Lee finished just off the podium in 4th (2:16.28). In the ‘B’ final, Megan Romano placed 3rd in 2:20.84.

2008 Ohio State Grand Prix – Men’s 1500 Free Finals

Club Wolverine’s Peter Vanderkaay charged through the 1500 Free final and won with a sizzling 14:52.56 effort; a best time by nearly 22 seconds. Finished second was Tyler Sell in 15:46.32, followed by The Fish’s Matthew Benecki’s 15:50.21.
