Olympic Trials - Men’s 400 IM Prelims
Ryan Lochte got the men’s 400 IM off to a quick start with a 4:13.38 to lead all qualifiers. World Record holder Michael Phelps cruised to the 2nd time of the morning, hitting the wall in 4:13.43. Phelps was expecting to swim a faster race, commenting that his time was slower than was he registered in Melbourne last year for Worlds. “Hopefully I can go a little faster tonight,” Phelps said after his race.
Robert Margalis (4:15.10), Alex Vanderkaay (4:16.99), Tyler Clary (4:17.46), Jack Brown (4:18.44), Clark Burckle (4:18.78), and Dustin McLarty (4:21.05) all advance to tonight’s final, and a shot at the 2008 Olympic Team.
