Dara Torres made her 5th Olympic Team with a 53.78 win in the women’s 100 Freestyle. Natalie Coughlin qualified for another event in Beijing with a 53.83 finish.

Lacey Nymeyer’s 54.02 and Jessica Hardy’s 54.62 earned them berths on the 400 Free Relay.

Emily Silver (54.91) and Julia Smit (54.99) earned consideration for the relay as alternates with their 5th and 6th place finishes.

The men’s 200 IM final featured another Michale Phelps/Ryan Lochte duel and Phelps improved his own global standard to 1:54.48 with the win. Ryan Lochte touched a close second in 1:55.22.

Eric Shanteau took 3rd with a 1:58.15 finish while Tim Liebhold (2:00.06) and Alex Vanderkaay (2:00.10) placed 4th and 5th respectively.

Robert Margalis and Dan Madwed both hit in 2:00.77 for a 6th place tie. T.P. Patrick completed the finals field in 2:01.52.

Hayley McGregory won the first semifinal of the women’s 200 Back with a personal best time of 2:08.28. Kristen Heiss snared second place with a 2:10.89 and Mary Descenza 3rd in 2:11.30. Fourth place went to Teresa Crippen (2:11.34).

In the next semi, American Record Holder Margaret Hoelzer (2:09.04) was beaten to the wall by Elizabeth Beisel’s 2:07.78.

Katie Riefenstahl posted a 2:10.78 for 4th overall while Morgan Scroggy touched in 2:11.36 for 8th place.

Above are all of your finalists for tomorrow night’s 200 Back final.

Aaron Peirsol tied Ryan Lochte’s World Record time of 1:54.32 to take first in the men’s 200 Back. Lochte raced him to the wall and touched second in 1:54.34. Tyler Clary’s 1:57.35 notched him 3rd, followed by Rex Tullius (1:57.73).

Fifth through eighth place were occupied by Nick Thoman (1:58.17), Chris DeJong (1:58.21), Cory Chitwood (1:58.39), and Patrick Schirk (1:59.88).

Rebecca Soni took a run at Leisel Jones’ World and Amanda Beard’s American records as she took the win in the women’s 200 Breast with a 2:22.60 finish. This will be her first Olympic team. Joining her will be Amanda Beard, who held off a late charge from Caitlin Leverenz (2:25.98) to finish 2nd in 2:25.13.

Finishing 4th was Keri Hehn, hitting in 2:26.89. Megan Jendrick (2:27.85), Ariana Kukors (2:28.55), Elle Weberg (2:28.67), and Laura Sogar (2:30.05) round out the final standings.

Ben Wildman-Tobriner will swim from lane 4 in tomorrow night’s 50 Free final after a 21.65 finish.

Cullen Jones won the second semi in 21.71 and Garrett Weber-Gale 3rd overall in 21.83. Holding down the 4th qualifying mark was Gary Hall Jr. With a 21.94 effort.

The seeded heats of the women’s 200 Back started with a bang. Former 100 Back World Record Holder Hayley McGregory went out fast and was under WR pace at times, coasting into the wall in 2:08.76. Julianne McLane turned in a 2:12.70 race to take second. McGregory’s time established a new Olympic Trials meet record.

In the next heat Elizabeth Beisel erased McGregory’s newly minted mark with a strong 2:07.44 output. It now stands as the 3rd fastest women’s 200 Back in the world this year.

American Record Holder Margaret Hoelzer looked smooth as she won the final heat in 2:10.19. Kristen Heiss gave a 2:10.41 performance for second.

Germantown’s Katie Riefenstahl (2:11.54) and Teresa Crippen (2:11.80) qualified 5-6 for tonight’s semifinals.

Caitlin Iverson posted 7th swiftest morning time of 2:12.09, just ahead of Erica Meissner’s 2:12.60.

Matt Grevers swam his 100 fly prelim in heat and made it to the wall in 52.78. Gil Stovall’s 52.26 led the heat followed by Tyler McGill in 52.57.

Michael Phelps bettered Stovall’s out with a 52.21 finish in heat 13. Bobby Bollier touched 2nd in 52.80, followed by Kyle Bubolz’s 52.97.

World Record Holder Ian Crocker took the final heat with a blazing 51.52 finish which earned him the top semifinal seed. Davis Tarwater was second in 52.32 and Ricky Berens 52.68.

Tyler McGill clocked a 52.57 and Peter Verhoef a 52.65 posted the 7th and 8th fastest marks of the event.

Semifinals for the men’s 100 Fly will take place tonight.

The women’s 800 Free prelims created a situation where swimmers needed to post a top 8 time in order to advance to the timed final tomorrow night.

Leading the way was Kate Ziegler, who swam in the final heat and finished in 8:29.39. Katie Hoff had a dominating swim as well, in the preceding heat, where she jumped out to an early lead. Her final time was 8:29.91.

The 3rd qualifier for finals was Kesley Ditto after her 8:34.14 race in the 5th heat. Open Water Olympian Chloe Sutton (8:35.58) advances as does Caroline Burckle and Leah Gingrich, who both posted 8:35.86 efforts.

Laurabeth Guenthner (8:36.79) and Katie Carroll (8:37.65) are the 7th and 8th qualifiers, respectively.

Day 5 action from the Qwest began with the men’s 50 Freestyle.

The 1st seeded heat was won by the Bijing bound Garrett Weber-Gale in 22.05, which was a time swum more than once during prelims. Nick Brunelli hit second in 22.27.

The next heat saw Gary Hall Jr.’s American Record from the year 2000 fall as Cullen Jones stormed to the wall with a best 21.55. Jason Lezak and Nathan Adrian tied for second in the heat with identical 22.05 swims.

In the final heat Ben Wildman-Tobriner out touched the field to win in 21.68. Former Aerican Record Holder Gary Hall Jr. Finished second with a 21.89 showing. Matt Grevers grabbed 3rd in a 22.19 finish.

The aforementioned swimmers comprise the top 8 of 16 going into tonight’s semifinals.
