World Champ Trials – Day 5 Finals

5:03:53 PM: 21.41!! New American Record for Cullen Jones in the 50 Free swimoff against Garret Weber-Gale

5:19:51 PM: Chloe Sutton takes gold in the women’s 800 Free in 8:29.34. Haley Anderson also makes the squad, finishing 2nd in 8:31.66

5:33:29 PM: The women’s 100 Free title goes to Dana Vollmer after a 54.00 swim.

5:33:59 PM: Second place goes to Amanda Weir, who hit in 54.03

5:37:28 PM: Why were we treated to, and spoiled by, a couple of sessions with Summer Sanders, only to have her taken away? She should do all interviews!

5:57:54 PM: Another World Record by Aaron Peirsol as he takes the 200 Back in 1:53.08! Ryan Lochte takes 2nd in 1:54.21

6:06:47 PM: Wow! What a week! Seeing WRs go down never gets old!

6:21:29 PM: Another World Record almist went down thanks to Rebcca Soni and her 2:20.38 200 Breast! She challenged, but was just a little short!

World Champ Trials – Day 5 Prelims

8:02:28 AM: First event this morning is the women’s 100 Free

8:09:54 AM: Felicia Lee’s 100 Free prelim time = 56.65

8:20:10 AM: Dana Vollmer’s 54.21 was the top time of he women’s 100 Free prelim heats. Amanda Weir qualified 2nd in 54.25, with Magnuson 3rd (54.45)

8:26:17 AM: Matt Grevers 200 Back Prelim = 1:57.04

8:34:54 AM: Tyler Clary (1:55.37) is the top qualifier for the 200 Back final. Aaron Peirsol’s 1:55.78 was the next time with Lochte’s 1:55.99 3rd

8:35:30 AM: Matt Grevers will also race in the A final after earning the 4th seed.

8:37:40 AM: The 200 Back looks to be “the” event of the night. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a new World Record!

9:01:28 AM: Keri Hehn posted a 2:26.05 200 Breast to lead the field into finals. Next qualifiers: Elizabeth Tinnon (2:27.09) & Rebecca Soni (2:27.35)

9:18:40 AM: Eric Shanteau took down the 200 Breast American Record with a 2:08.43 performance! Can’t wait for finals!

9:24:20 AM: Shanteau is obviously the top seed, followed by George Klein (2:11.25) and Scott Spann (2:12.33)

World Champ Trials – Day 4 Final LiveBlog

4:48:58 PM: Action is about to get underway! Looks like another exciting session!

4:57:29 PM: Doing a few awards ceremonies before the 1st event: men’s 100 Free!

5:06:15 PM: Men’s 100 Free B final is a scorcher! Cesar Cielo takes the win in 47.69, just off the US Open record.

5:07:41 PM: Time for the A final! Should be another good heat!

5:09:46 PM: Ryan Lochte scratched, allowing Matt Grevers to race in the championship final

5:11:24 PM: Close race win Grevers ahead at 50, but Nathan Adrian takes the win in 48 flat

5:14:02 PM: Dave Walters takes the second spot in 48.17. Matt Grevers finished 4th, securing a spot on the team for the 400 Free Relay.

5:30:13 PM: Felicia Lee took second in the women’s 200 Fly B final with a best time of 2:10.56. Leah Gingrich won in 2:10.42

5:36:40 PM: Hersey and DeScenza will represent Team USA in Rome. What a race!

5:49:36 PM: Ready for the men’s 200 IM championship final!

5:56:15 PM: Ryan Lochte tool a rum at the 200 IM world record and nearly got it. Winning in a meet record 1:54.56.

6:00:04 PM: Tyler Clary took second in 1:56.00, followed by Eric Shanteau’s 1:57.25.

6:05:16 PM: Eric Shanteau took second in 1:56 flat with Tyler Clary grabbing 3rd in1:57.25

6:06:28 PM: Lochte finally busted out his grillz for a domestic meet. Lookin fly and blinged out on the awards stand!

6:21:48 PM: Elizabeth Beisel made a late charge to win the women’s 200 Back in 2:08.80. Liz Pelton hit in 2:09.19, which gives her a 3rd event in Rome!

8:11:37 AM: Some real fast men’s 100 Free heats!

8:14:51 AM: Swimming with some empty lanes around him, Nathan Adrian posted the top 100 Free time of 48.10. Ryan Lochte had the next time of 48.16

8:16:39 AM: Matt Grevers (49.01) and Davis Tarwater (49.14) will race in the B final after qualifying 11th and 13th, respectively.

8:44:48 AM: Elaine Breeden will swim from Lane 4 this evening in the women’s 200 Fly final after a 2:07.78 swim. Kathleen Hersey is #2 seed (2:08.69)

8:46:16 AM: Felicia Lee qualified for the B final. She finished in 2:12.49

9:10:38 AM: Ryan Lochte (1:57.05) and Tyler Clary (1:58.61) gave a possible preview of tonight’s final, qualifying 1-2 in the 200 IM

9:38:34 AM: Elizabeth Beisel stopped the clock at 2:09.36 to earn the top seed of the women’s 200 Back. Liz Pelton advances as the 2nd seed in 2:09.72

5:06:19 PM: Finals underway with women’s 100 Breast!

5:12:55 PM: Rebecca Soni takes the women’s 100 Breast in 1:05.34, a new American Record

5:14:20 PM: Kasey Carlson grabbed silver in 1:06.54, followed by Keri Hehn’s 1:06.71

5:30:51 PM: Michael Phelps world record 100 Fly 50.22!

5:35:43 PM: Tyler McGill finished 2nd in 51.06 with Aaron Peirsol 3rd (51.30). Davis Tarwater was 4th in 51.95

5:50:20 PM: Dara Torres wins the 50 free in 24.43, and will be joined by Amanda Weir (24.70) on the Worlds Team. Lara Jackson was 3rd in 24.71

6:08:20 PM: Nathan Adrian out touched the rest of the field in the 50 Free, winning in 21.52

6:09:45 PM: There was a tie for second place with Cullen Jones and Garrett Weber-Gale hitting in 21.55

8:41:14 AM: Michael Phelps posted the top men’s 100 Fly time of the morning, hitting in 51.17. Tyler McGill advances second is Tyler McGill (51.76)

8:42:42 AM: Aaron Peirsol (51.86) and Davis Tarwater (52.07) were the 3rd and 4th respective qualifiers.

8:51:52 AM: Dara Torres comfortably won the final heat of the women’s 50 Free in 25.72 to earn the top seed.

8:54:43 AM: Anne Botek claimed the 2nd seed in 24.89, followed by Amanda Weir’s 24.94

Santa Clara 2009 – 400 Medley Relays

The Australian women’s ‘A’ and ‘B’ 400 Medley Relay squads went 1-2 with respective times of 4:04.97 and 4:12.23. The bronze went to the PASA women, who finished in 4:20.10.

The Aussie men duplicated the women’s 1-2 finish with combined times of 3:39.48 and 3:50.81. The former time establishing a new meet record. Team UL (University Laval) completed the medals in 3:54.68.

Santa Clara 2009 – Men’s 1500 Free Final

Canada’s Ryan Cochrane escaped the men’s 1500 Free with the gold medal effort of 15:06.70. Touching just after was John Koehler (15:07.08) and then further back Ryan Napoleon (15:16.66) for third.

Australia’s Katie Goldman won the women’s 800 Freestyle final with a 8:34.81. Longhorn’s Amber McDermott hit second in 8:36.85, just ahead of Kelsey Ditto’s 8:37.19.

Santa Clara 2009 – Men’s 100 Back Final

Ryan Lochte took the first 50 out hard and pushed through to the finish to win, and hold off Michael Phelps 54.15 to 54.31. Australia’s Ashley Delaney also challenged for the win, making it to the wall in 54.41. Swimming from Lane 5, Matt Grevers just missed the podium with a 54.96 swim.
