Ryan Lochte challenged down the stretch, but Japan’s Masayuki Kishida took the men’s 100 Back title in 52.43. Lochte settled for second in 52.84, while Longhorn’s Ricky Berens posted a 53.00 to claim the final medal. Matt Grevers placed 7th with a 53.57 performance.

There was a logjam of qualifying times for the men’s 100 Fly prelims. A lot of 53s, which should make timed finals very exciting! Stanford’s Jason Dunford had the top time of 53.25. Tyler McGill did a 53.46, just ahead of Albert Subirates’ 53.55 and RYan Lochte’s 53.62. Ricky Berens (53.68) and Matt Grevers (53.97) should also advance.

Dana Vollmer won her second event of the night with a 58.40 swim in the 100 Fly. Touching second was Mary DeScenza in 59.42, while Elaine Breeden took 3rd in 59.51.
