Santa Clara 2009 – Women’s 200 Back Final

Kirsty Coventry posted a sizzling 2:06.99 to not only win the women’s 200 Back with a new meet record, but her time now serves as the fastest in the world so far this year. Meagan Nay, who previously held the top 2009 time to-date, hit second in 2:08.61, while Elizabeth Beisel notched 3rd in 2:12.86.

Santa Clara 2009 – Women’s 200 Back Prelims

Aussie Meagan Nay continued her solid run at the Santa Clara International with a field leading 200 Back prelim time of 2:11.13 to earn the #1 seed. Kirsty Coventry had the next qualifying time, a 2:11.96, before Elizabeth Beisel’s 2:13.72 and Katie Riefenstahl’s 2:14.09.

Santa Clara 2009 – Men’s 200 Back Final

Reigning Olympic medalist and World Record Holder Ryan Lochte won the men’s 200 Back in 1:56.83. He used a great final turn to vault to the front of the pack and take the win. Australia’s Ashley Delaney, who led most of the race, made it to the wall in 1:58.60 for the silver, while Matt Hawes claimed the final medal with a 2:00.30 effort.

Santa Clara 2009 – Men’s 200 Back Prelims

Matt Hawes, of the UBC Dolphins, out-touched Ryan Lochte at the wall during the final heat of the men’s 200 Back. He registered a 2:02.52 while Lochte, hit in 2:02.99. However, the top seed for finals will be Cal’s David Russell, who finished in 2:01.31, just ahead of Australia’s Ashley Delaney (2:01.50). Eugene Godsoe (2:04.24) also advances, as will will Brian Johns (2:04.81) and Rex Tullius (2:05.25).
